I can’t stress to you enough how much dancers need Yoga. Not just on a physical level, but a mental one as well. Some of you who regularly follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and Google+ know that I’ve done three videos on my YouTube channel with Yoga for Dancers sequences and poses. Obviously, anyone who is interested in a Yoga sequence is more than welcome to try out these sequences, but these videos I created are specifically geared towards dancers because they focus on areas of the body that are very important in a dancer’s technique. Personally, when I was dancing full-time, I had the most trouble with hamstring and hip flexibility. The most common problem that I noticed in my peer group was dancers who had overly flexible hamstrings that they ended up stretching too far and injuring. Therefore, the videos that I made focus on stretching the hamstrings (for those like myself), strengthening the hamstrings (for those who are already flexible in that area), and opening the hip area. I have not yet touched upon the meditation aspect of Yoga, which I feel would help dancers the most due to the amount of stress they are constantly placed under (auditions, competitions, etc.). I do plan on making a video regarding this issue as soon as I can. I also have a few other “Yoga for Dancers” geared goodies that I am working on, but I will disclose all of that information at a later date.
For now, if you are a dancer needing to work on hamstrings and hips in order to improve your technique, please take a look at the following three videos and add these sequences and stretches to your warm-up and/or cool down (before and/or after class). Also, if you’d like to keep up with all of my Yoga For Dancers videos and more, please subscribe to my YouTube channel, and follow me through social media as well! I post there pretty frequently. Anyway, enjoy my videos! Hope to see you here again soon!
