Judging from what you’ve seen on my No Sugar Challenge posts recently, I crave chocolate and sweets VERY often. Even after four weeks straight of not eating any processed sugar, white flour, or even natural sweeteners, I STILL crave sugar on a daily basis. I’ve been working very hard to try and fight this insatiable urge, but sometimes (more often than I’d like) it cannot be beaten.
Therefore, I’ve adapted a very popular and easy brownie recipe to include whole wheat flour instead of white flour AND that replaces the processed sugar with natural sweeteners, which I’ve been allowing myself to have. I was somewhat skeptical as to how it would taste because the raw batter was a really strange consistency, but to my surprise, they are really not bad at all.
The only negative comment I had about them was that they are a bit on the dry side, so I would definitely recommend (if you’re not eating them right out of the oven) heating them in the microwave for like 15-20 seconds so that the warmth adds a bit of moisture. Also, you should store them in a container covered in plastic wrap while they’re still warm so that the heat trapped in the plastic keeps the moisture contained within the brownies for later consumption.
Anyway, I’m still working on adapting the recipe a bit, but if you’re looking for a SUPER EASY & sugar-free recipe to knock out that sugar craving, then give this one a try! Its definitely been helping me over the past couple of days.
Sugar Free Brownie Recipe
Soft unsalted butter (for greasing the pan)
Whole wheat flour (for dusting the pan)
4 Large organic, free range eggs
1 cup coconut palm sugar
1/4 cup Stevia In The Raw
2 teaspoons pure maple syrup
8 ounces unsalted butter, melted & cooled
1 & 1/4 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F (about 150 degrees C). Butter & flour a 8″ square pan or a 9″ round pan, or any variation of those two you can find.
Beat the eggs until fluffy & light yellow in color with a mixer and whisk attachment or by hand with a whisk. Add coconut sugar, Stevia In The Raw, and the pure maple syrup, and mix to combine. Add ALL remaining ingredients, and combine well.
Pour the batter into the buttered & floured pan, and bake for about 45 minutes. Insert a toothpick or butter knife into the center, and if it comes out clean, the brownies are done! Cool them on a wire rack, and don’t cut into them until they are cooled. Enjoy!!
Final Thoughts: I hope you enjoy this no sugar brownie recipe! They do have quite a bit of butter, so I wouldn’t recommend eating them all the time, but they’re great for a quick fix if you are having one of those, “I really need something sweet today” moments. It happens to the best of us.
