#GivingTuesday | The Antidote to Black Friday

A blogger friend of mine, Anne Marie of Crunchy, Crafty, and Highly Caffeinated, posted about this on her facebook page, and I automatically was hooked! As we all know, yesterday was “Cyber Monday”, Friday was “Black Friday,” and unfortunately, Thanksgiving day has turned into the disgustingly ugly “Grey Thursday.” While all things have their purpose, and I the past 3 days of shopping has definitely helped many people this year, today has become something really special. New York’s 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation launched a global movement to give back on December 2nd (or the Tuesday after Cyber Monday) that has engaged over 10,000 organizations worldwide. And it’s called, #GivingTuesday!

#GivingTuesday

The concept behind this day is simple. Just give. Give your time, money, energy, positivity, love, whatever you can just for the sake of giving. This may sound a little cheesy or cliche, but the BEST part about the holiday season is giving. I know my favorite thing about Christmas is not getting presents, but planning out what I am going to get all of my loved ones and then seeing the look on their faces when I give them their gifts.

So, this year, join the #GivingTuesday movement! Use today as a day to intentionally give back to someone, a charity, a stranger, anyone you’d like, not for anything in return, but just because. I personally did not participate in any of the other shopping days this past weekend, but I definitely will be participating in this. I hope you all have a wonderful #GivingTuesday!

What a nice idea! I t takes the holidays back to the original idea of gratitude rather than mindlessly consuming. Isn´t that what it´s all about? Let´s focus on the important things :)
