Fitness Challenge – Regaining Strength and Stamina {Days 4 & 5}

Fitness Challenge Days 4 & 5

Hello again! I’ve decided to post about days 4 and 5 of my Fitness Challenge together because I did them consecutively so why not condense and avoid too much repetition, right? So, without further ado, here are my exercise logs starting with Day 4:

Day 4 Exercise Log

1. I began with a 10 minute warm up of a brisk walk (to the point of where I started to sweat a little).

2. I then alternated between 2 minutes of light running and 1 minute of brisk walking for 3 repetitions.

3. Finally, I briskly walked for about 5 to 7 minutes (an estimation) to cool down.

Day 5 Exercise Log

1. Warmed up as usual (as stated in step 1 above).

2. I alternated between 1 minute of light running and 2 minutes of brisk walking 3 times.

3. I then went into a full run for as long as I possibly could without passing out (estimated to be about 45 seconds) {ouch}.

4. I then cooled down with a brisk walk for about 10 minutes.

5. When I returned home from running, I performed 3 sets of 10 leg lifts each.

{Leg Lift Description: Basically lie on your back completely flat, put your hands behind your head, & keeping your legs straight, lift them up towards the sky and lower them back down. You want to engage your lower abs the entire time. Picture with descriptions can be viewed below. Ignore my “mean-face” expression.}

6. Then, I held the plank position for about a minute. {the Plank Position is where you would start a push up from. Picture below.}

7. And finally I performed about 4 yoga sun salutations. {view the below video if you are not familiar with yoga and would like to see the type of sun salutation I did.}

Final Thoughts: I am definitely feeling sore, but not to the point where I can’t walk (yes, that’s happened to me before). Today (Day 5) during the run, I definitely started to feel it in my shins. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I’m not developing shin splints (unfortunately, this has also happened to me before) because that would prevent me from continuing with my running, which would be horrible!!! I am feeling quite tired from the fact that I have added far more exercise to my daily lifestyle, and I’m hoping that the tiredness will eventually diminish as I get use to this new schedule. As for my stamina, I still haven’t seen that much of an improvement, however, I am still hopeful that it will happen after another week or possibly two.

I hope that you’re all enjoying following along with my Fitness Challenge! Leave me some comments to let me know what you think of my exercises, and how you’re all doing with your own fitness challenges!

Best Wishes,

The Dance Grad

P.S. Special thanks to Courtney Leopold for the yoga video that I used in this post!
