The Best Dance Commercials

After writing about the whole Free People ballet fiasco that occurred a couple of weeks ago, I’ve been taking note of all the companies that have nothing to do with dance at all really, but have been using dancers in their advertisements and commercials.

First of all, I think its great since it provides more work opportunities for the dance community that truly need as many opportunities as they can get. I also think that it’s a great idea for clothing companies to use dancers in their ads to communicate the idea that the clothes “move well” or stretch to fit your form no matter what. There are some ads where I still don’t quite understand why there are dancers included (see Lexus ad shown below), but I guess its worth it if they’re giving the dance community more exposure.

My Favorite Dance Commercials of All Time:

1. Ford Car Built Out of Human Bodies

This one strikes a cord with me because it involves modern dancers, which is not as “entertaining” to the general public (non-dancers) as ballet, hip hop, or even contemporary jazz. However, these dancers draw the viewer in by creating a full-sized car using only their bodies! Check it out! You won’t be sorry!

2. Nike Women’s “Keep Up” with Sofia Boutella

There are a few others from Nike with this dancer, and there’s another with a hip hop dancer “battling” with a ballerina, but this one below is my favorite. I mainly like it because it has the look of a dance film and the set is simple and elegant- not to mention that the dancer is beautiful as well.

3. Gap’s Khaki Swing

This one’s a classic! When I was about 10 years old, my dance studio did a “remake” of this commercial where we all wore khakis with white tank tops. Maybe that’s why I like it so much, but it is pretty cool and its definitely worth watching!

4. Haines Underwear With Momix

I remember this one when it first aired, and I’ve always loved it. I’ve always been a fan of Momix, and I think its really awesome that they had TV exposure connected with such a well-known brand.

5. Lexus Ballet Commercial

This is one of the one’s that I don’t quite understand how it relates to dance, but it is quite stunning, so I thought it was worth a shout.

6. Levi’s Stretchy Jeans Ballet Commercial

I just recently discovered this one from a friend posting it on Facebook, and I thought it was very beautiful and clever. The dancers are from the Korea National Ballet Company, and they are absolutely stunning. The whole thing is quite cinematic, and it kept me interested and engaged throughout.

Final Thoughts: I hope you enjoyed the collection of my favorite dance commercials! Do you have any favorites that I’ve missed out on? If so, leave them in the comments below!
