5 People You Should Be Listening To | TheDanceGrad.com5 Inspiring People You Should Be Listening To

As you may know, I am very much into “self-help” books, “new age” thinking, and all things in between that make people better and happier. The reason why I used quotations around those terms is because I feel those are just labels put in place by individuals who don’t truly understand their significance. Anyway, that’s not why I’m here today (perhaps another topic for another post? let me know!). The reason why I’m here today is because I’d like to talk briefly… Read More…

30 Things To Do Before 30 | TheDanceGrad.com30 Things To Do Before 30

As of now, I am 26 years old, and I will be turning 27 in April 2015. That means that I have 3.5 years until I turn the big 3-0! I figure, that’s plenty of time to accomplish some fun & adventurous life goals that I haven’t yet checked off the list. I’ve definitely done a lot in my 26 years on earth. Lived abroad, got a master’s degree, and traveled to 26 countries (I think that’s how many), but there are definitely some things that I still would like to do that I haven’t yet ticked off the list. Some might call this a “bucket list,” but I honestly hate that term and concept. Read More…

8 Ads to Empower Girls & Women ~ TheDanceGrad.com8 Ads to Empower Girls & Women

I have been extremely inspired lately by all these new commercials based on female empowerment, especially the one’s aimed towards empowering young girls. It is SO important to remind young girls that they are not the weaker gender and they are free to be whoever they want to be! Personally, I have always been shy, but there was a brief time in my childhood where I really became comfortable with myself. I wasn’t afraid to speak up, I was funny, I would ask A LOT of questions, and I just wasn’t afraid to be me. Unfortunately, I can vividly… Read More…

Questioning Life & Dealing with Grief | TheDanceGrad.comQuestioning Life & Dealing With Grief

I’d like to believe that there comes a time in life where we all tend to question things. What is our purpose? Is there a God? Why are we here? I’m saying, “I’d like to believe that” because that time came for me a few years ago. I hope I’m not the only one who thinks about those things, in fact, I’m absolutely certain that I’m not, but in a way I still feel guilty for not having stronger faith. Read More…

Oil Pulling | Yay or Nay? | TheDanceGrad.comOil Pulling | Yay or Nay?

So, during my Yoga teacher training, we touched upon the topic of Ayurveda, which is an ancient Indian medical practice. How Cheating on My Diet Helped! | No Sugar Challenge | Week 3 | TheDanceGrad.comHow Cheating on My Diet Helped | No Sugar Challenge | Week 3

The 3rd week of my No Sugar Challenge is complete, and I barely made it by the skin of my teeth! I can’t even count how many times I wanted to cheat or give up. The cravings were even more intense than the ones during week 2. It was almost as if they had carried over and just became even more difficult to repress. Ultimately I learned that cheating on my diet, even just a tiny bit, helped it to work even better. Read More…

Dealing With Sugar Cravings | No Sugar Challenge | Week 2Dealing With Sugar Cravings | No Sugar Challenge | Week 2

Today, I am halfway into week 3 of my No Sugar Challenge, but let me tell you, week 2 was really difficult for me. Far more difficult than the first week for some reason, and I currently am getting over a really bad cold, which made giving up sugar even harder. When I began this challenge two weeks ago, I was under the impression that it would get progressively easier as time passed, and my cravings would be less-intense by week two. Well, I was unpleasantly surprised when I found that my sugar-cravings (that were almost nonexistent during week one) were even more intense than before. Read More…

Mother’s Day is fast approaching, and guess what? Its time to buy your Mom an awesome gift! The best way to make a gift awesome and one of a kind, no matter how big or small the gift may be, is to make it thoughtful. The No Sugar Challenge | Week 1 of 4Sugar Withdrawal Symptoms | No Sugar Challenge | Week 1

Hello everyone!! I’m proud to say that I survived week 1 of 4 for my No Sugar Challenge! It was not an easy road, especially since day 3 was my birthday (no cake for me). It is making it a bit easier that I’m currently staying with my parents at home and both of them are on diets as well. If they were both eating “normally” while I had to cut out SO MUCH from my diet, I would probably go a bit crazy. I definitely experienced some sugar withdrawal symptoms, but overall, I think its going pretty well! Read More…

The No Sugar Challenge | Are You In?The No Sugar Challenge | Are You In?

So, I’ve done “challenges” and posted about them before (i.e. 24 Day Fitness Challenge, and Yoga Teacher Training), but this one is the most “challenging” by far. For this No Sugar Challenge, I have decided to give up added, artificial, and refined sugar completely, and cut back on my overall sugar intake (fruit, brown rice, etc.) for 4 weeks. This may sound simple to some, but for someone like me who is a self-proclaimed sugar addict, I know that it is going to be a major struggle. Read More…

Raise your hand if you hate Valentine’s Day! I know I’m not the only one who really doesn’t like this holiday, but I think I may be the only “non-single” person who doesn’t like this holiday (maybe; please correct me if I’m wrong).I think the reason for this weird aversion to V-Day is because when I was 16 going on 17 years old (yes, just like the song), I had a huge amount of sad things happen in my life during this time of year. How To Care For Skin With AcneHow To Care for Skin With Acne

My skin is somewhat problematic in that I often have acne blemishes, and I still have acne scarring from my previous blemishes that have come and gone. Therefore, I have a slightly tedious skin care routine. Since I also have combination skin, that means it not only breaks out with pimples, but it also has the tendency to be simultaneously oily and dry. This means my skin routine has to balance drying out my blemishes and keeping my face moisturized at the same time. Read More…

Holiday Gift Ideas: Gifts for Dancers

Holiday Gifts for Dancers

Being a dancer/former dancer myself, I never actually received a lot of “dance related” gifts because I guess my family always thought of those things as necessity instead of luxury. If you are a professional dancer or dance academic, then that is very true, but there are a few “luxurious” items that are quite useful for dancers, but perhaps too much to be considered a necessity. 7 Stress Relief Tips! [can be applied to any stressful situation]7 Stress Relieving Suggestions to Save Your Life

Dancers often deal with somewhat stressful environments. A major aspect of dance that causes stress is dealing with rejection. Now, I don’t want you to start feeling all sorry for me, but I am no stranger to dealing with rejection in the dance world. When you’re about 7 or 8 years old, dancing with a professional ballet company and wondering why you weren’t picked to be a baby butterfly or a “petit papillon” but your best friend was, that can be a bit scarring. And yet, the competitive side of me stuck with it all the way until college. Read More…
