8 Ads to Empower Girls & Women

I have been extremely inspired lately by all these new commercials based on female empowerment, especially the one’s aimed towards empowering young girls. It is SO important to remind young girls that they are not the weaker gender and they are free to be whoever they want to be! Personally, I have always been shy, but there was a brief time in my childhood where I really became comfortable with myself. I wasn’t afraid to speak up, I was funny, I would ask A LOT of questions, and I just wasn’t afraid to be me. Unfortunately, I can vividly remember and pinpoint the exact moment when that was all distinguished. I hate to keep blaming dance for all my problems, but this one I’m going to have to blame on ballet. Young ballerinas who were loud, who questioned their teachers, and who had opinions that went against those of the teacher and/or choreographer were unacceptable in the ballet world. If I wanted to even have a shot at getting the good parts in the ballets, I had to learn how to be quiet, reserved and respectful very quickly. This brought me right back to being shy, doubtful of myself, and really self-conscious. Remembering those times makes me livid and physically ill. I want so badly to prevent other young girls from having that same experience, and while I don’t regret who am & who I’ve become, I still wish that I didn’t have to struggle so much against my insercurities. I still wish that my phobia of being noticed and heard would disappear, and that I could have all the confidence I need to express my opinions without fear of what others will think of me.

So, as a part of my efforts to help with this movement of empowering girls, I’ve compiled a list of 8 commercials (or adverts) that are aimed at inspiring young girls to believe in themselves. I’m going to be honest with you, a lot of these videos made me cry, so grab your tissues if you’re a cryer like me.

Now that you’re completely inspired and ready to evoke change, just in case you didn’t know, Monday July 14th is Malala Day (click the link if you don’t know what that is). Malala’s story was so incredibly inspiring to me, and I just want to spread as much awareness as I can about the cause. If you’re inspired by her story as well, then donate and/or share as much as you can. Everyone deserves an education no matter what gender you are!! Thank you all so much for visiting, and I hope you are having a wonderful Sunday enjoying the World Cup :) (if you’re into that sort of thing).

Best Wishes,
