I absolutely love holidays, and the fact that they just give everyone an excuse to celebrate and be happy! However, this year I have been feeling especially uninspired lately. Perhaps it’s because I have so much going on in my life right now, or maybe it’s the fact that I am now in my mid-twenties and Halloween isn’t as big of a deal anymore. Whatever the reason may be… Read More…

Why Traveling Is Always A Good Idea | TheDanceGrad.comWhy Traveling Is Always A Good Idea

Traveling is something that means a great deal to me. When I was in high school, my friends use to talk about wanting to travel the world, and I always remember thinking to myself, “Why would anyone want to leave the country? We have all that we need right here.” I just didn’t get it. I didn’t own a passport until I was 16 years old… Read More…

Healthy Lemon Pound Cake | TheDanceGrad.comHealthy Lemon Pound Cake

The other day, I was craving cake. I decided that instead of eating regular cake that is typically made with white flour and regular sugar, I would make my own healthy cake. This time I decided to try a Lemon Pound Cake recipe that I found my doing a Google search for “healthy cake recipes.” This cake was classified as healthy because it called for partial use of whole wheat pastry flour instead of using all white flour. However, it still contained white flour. Read More…

Is NYC for Me? | TheDanceGrad.comIs NYC for Me?

Ever since I returned back to The States from London about 5 months ago (woah, has is really been that long?), I’ve been doing some SERIOUS life reevaluating. What role does dance have in my life? Where do I want to live? What kind of life do I really want to lead? And while I don’t necessarily have the answers to all these questions completely ironed out quite yet, I feel like I’m definitely on the road to just figuring sh** out… Read More…

8 Ads to Empower Girls & Women ~ TheDanceGrad.com8 Ads to Empower Girls & Women

I have been extremely inspired lately by all these new commercials based on female empowerment, especially the one’s aimed towards empowering young girls. It is SO important to remind young girls that they are not the weaker gender and they are free to be whoever they want to be! Personally, I have always been shy, but there was a brief time in my childhood where I really became comfortable with myself. I wasn’t afraid to speak up, I was funny, I would ask A LOT of questions, and I just wasn’t afraid to be me. Unfortunately, I can vividly… Read More…

Staying Positive & Finding Myself | TheDanceGrad.comStaying Positive & Finding Myself

I’m one of those people who never knew what she wanted to do in life. I never had one career in mind because I changed my mind almost every day. I chose to follow dance as a topic to study because I had the body for it, I was decent at it, and the longer I stuck with it, the more convenient it became to continue my education in that field. Now, one specialized H.S. diploma, Bachelor’s… Read More…

Questioning Life & Dealing with Grief | TheDanceGrad.comQuestioning Life & Dealing With Grief

I’d like to believe that there comes a time in life where we all tend to question things. What is our purpose? Is there a God? Why are we here? I’m saying, “I’d like to believe that” because that time came for me a few years ago. I hope I’m not the only one who thinks about those things, in fact, I’m absolutely certain that I’m not, but in a way I still feel guilty for not having stronger faith. Read More…

Sugar Free Brownie Recipe | TheDanceGrad.comSugar Free Brownie Recipe

I’ve adapted a very popular and easy brownie recipe to include whole wheat flour instead of white flour AND that replaces the processed sugar with natural sweeteners, which I’ve been allowing myself to have. Oil Pulling | Yay or Nay? | TheDanceGrad.comOil Pulling | Yay or Nay?

So, during my Yoga teacher training, we touched upon the topic of Ayurveda, which is an ancient Indian medical practice. Learning about the ideologies of Ayurveda and some of the methodologies for health care resonated with me, and it made me want to explore how I can apply some of their techniques to my own life. After I learned about the foundations of this practice during the training, I began to do a little bit of my own research, and I that’s how I discovered oil pulling. Read More…

Don't Treat Your Body Like A Dump! | TheDanceGrad.comDon’t Treat Your Body Like A Dump

So, I was in the kitchen snacking on a raw cocoa and goji berry energy bar (one of my new favorites found during the final 2 days of my No Sugar Challenge), and I heard a loud female voice coming from the TV in the next room. It said, “Just dump on the good stuff! Chocolate chips, marshmallows, even chocolate cookies! Bake and voila! The best dessert ever!” This, of course, caught my attention… Read More…

How Cheating on My Diet Helped! | No Sugar Challenge | Week 3 | TheDanceGrad.comHow Cheating on My Diet Helped | No Sugar Challenge | Week 3

The 3rd week of my No Sugar Challenge is complete, and I barely made it by the skin of my teeth! I can’t even count how many times I wanted to cheat or give up. The cravings were even more intense than the ones during week 2. It was almost as if they had carried over and just became even more difficult to repress. Ultimately I learned that cheating on my diet, even just a tiny bit, helped it to work even better. Read More…

Mother's Day Gift Guide | TheDanceGrad.comMother’s Day Gift Guide

Mother’s Day is fast approaching, and guess what? Its time to buy your Mom an awesome gift! The best way to make a gift awesome and one of a kind, no matter how big or small the gift may be, is to make it thoughtful. The No Sugar Challenge | Week 1 of 4

Sugar Withdrawal Symptoms

Hello everyone!! I’m proud to say that I survived week 1 of 4 for my No Sugar Challenge! It was  not an easy road, especially since day 3 was my birthday (no cake for me). It is making it a bit  easier that I’m currently staying with my parents at home and both of them are on diets as well.  If they were both eating “normally” while I had to cut out SO MUCH from my diet, I would  probably go a bit crazy. I definitely experienced some sugar withdrawal symptoms, but overall, I  think its going pretty well! Read more…

The No Sugar Challenge | Are You In?

The No Sugar Challenge

So, I’ve done “challenges” and posted about them before (i.e. 24 Day Fitness Challenge, and Yoga Teacher Training), but this one is the most “challenging” by far. For this No Sugar Challenge, I have decided to give up added, artificial, and refined sugar completely, and cut back on my overall sugar intake (fruit, brown rice, etc.) for 4 weeks. This may sound simple to some, but for someone like me who is a self-proclaimed sugar addict, I know that it is going to be a major struggle. Read more…

The fourth and final week of the YTT (Yoga Teacher Training) was great! A lot of it consisted of reviewing information that we already learned for our exam, but we also learned a about restorative yoga, arm balances, and some work at the Iyengar Wall. The restorative and Iyengar day was really interesting, and performing those postures brought up a lot of emotions for me. Read more…
